My dog at 14 went to dog heaven due to no path out of the pool and his name was SKAMPER. He was a champion show dog and quite a jumper. That was a tragic way to die and it tore my Dad up especially and it was hard on me as well. The path out is what you offer [Skamper-Ramp]. It would have saved Skamper’s life for sure. Keep selling the Skamper-Ramp in honor of my Skamper. The good news is he had a long active life and his way of going will perhaps provide a way for many more of our four legged friends to live a longer life. All dogs go to heaven!

Not all dogs take to the water with such ease. When Sandy Eldridge moved from Napa to Palm Springs a year ago, her longhaired Chihuahua, Maltese, Scotty and two Yorkies had never been around a pool.
"My dogs aren't water dogs," Eldridge says. As if to prove the point, two fell into the pool shortly after moving in. "Luckily," she says, "I was at home at the time."

Her veterinarian mentioned a device called a Skamper Ramp, which is designed to help prevent pet drownings at home. Eldridge found a local retailer on the manufacturer's website (
) and had the ramp installed by a pool repair company. The total cost was about $140, including installation, she says.

Eldridge then spent about an hour training all five dogs how to use the ramp. Now they swim right to it and clamber out unassisted.

"It's not the prettiest thing in the world," she says of the device, "but neither is a dead
animal."

Saw your product in a pool supply store in NJ about 5 months ago (was off season and I did not think much about it at the time). We just adopted a 10 week old Labrador Retriever puppy this month and he took one look at the pool and was off like a shot. We have an inground pool right at puppy level. However, the problem was that he did not know how to get out. I had to jump in to help him get out. I recalled the Skamper Ramp at the pool store and decided to try it. It installed easily (< 15 mins) and the pup was using his ramp after only 5 assisted attempts. He now jumps in the pool with the kids and I have no fear of him not being able to get out I also have no fear if he decides to jump in without our knowledge since I know he understands how to use his Skamper Ramp. THANK YOU for a great product that actually DOES what it promises. This was absolutely money well spent. Continued success....... Ron M, NJ

"Dear Skamper Ramp:
I just wanted to tell you how awesome this product is and how much I appreciate it being available. We moved into a house with a pool in July of '05, never having been pool owners before. I already had a phobia of dead animals and was devastated to find poor animals that had drowned in our pool. I would keep a shovel next to the pool and obsessively check it through the day. If I found an animal swimming in it I would run down the stairs and quickly scoop it out of the pool to safety. My neighbors thought I was nuts to be so concerned.
Finally, in desperation one day, I decided to check the internet to see if there was any kind of product available for this problem. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find the Skamper-Ramp. We have had our pool open for 3 months so far this season and I have not found one animal in our pool and I'm not afraid to check the skimmers each morning. I was wary at first that the product would work as you say but I bought one and put it in the pool the day I received it. Now I'm not anxious at all and I can relax and enjoy our new pool. I tell everyone I know about the Skamper Ramp and even give it as gifts to pool owners I know. Thanks so much,"

Congratulations Skamper-Ramp!  Skamper-Ramp® is one of our advertisers and we love promoting their product, even more so now, since there is so much emphasis on dog health and safety given the current dog food crisis. The ramp by Skamper-Ramp is a great product and does save the lives of dogs and other animals.  DoggyBling.com and Skamper-Ramp donated four ramps to PAWS, our local rescue shelter and they were so excited. The director at PAWS said that they pull dead animals from swimming pools all too often.  We appreciate Skamper-Ramp's commitment to dog safety. DoggyBling.com; 3/27/07

"I would never allow any dog to be around an unsecured/unfenced pool without a Skamper-Ramp...and even if the pool were fenced, I would still have a Skamper-Ramp. Accidents do happen...a friend thought she had every potential danger covered - her pool is securely fenced by chain link with locked gates. Unfortunately, a serviceman left the gate open and a dog found his way into her pool and drowned. It is such a sad occurrence but one that can be certainly avoided with a Skamper-Ramp." -- S.G. MAHA

"Finally, I found you! I tried making one but it cost me $1,000 and didn't work. I tried buying one from one of your competitors but it cost me hundreds of dollars, rusted, and didn't last six months. Now I don't worry about dead critters and my Westie with back problems is safe. This doesn't slime, doesn't rust, doesn't break and is perfect for renters, like me. Thank you!" --C. Budde, CA

Dear Skamper,
In reference to your Skamper-Ramp: I live deep in the woods of Glastonbury, CT and my property is adjacent to state forest.
Needless to say, every year I would find countless amounts of moles, mice, snakes, and frogs that I would have to scoop out of the pool weekly.
Several years ago, at the national pool show, I met you and became familiar with your product. I immediately recognized the potential that your product has.
Two (2) months before the show, I found a dead skunk floating in my pool. Upon returning from the show, I immediately installed a Skamper-Ramp on my pool, and since then have had no further incidents with any of the woodland animals.
This past year a large frog came by and regularly used the ramp for a sunning place and as an entrance/ exit for his daily swims.
I highly recommend your product to anyone who has pets, or is in an area where animals can find access to the pool.
Sincerely,
Albert Rizzo, CSP, CBP

"Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I have several small dogs. Last fall I was given a Skamper-Ramp to use this year. After we installed the ramp, my husband and I put the dogs in the pool one at a time and showed them where the ramp was. They figured it out rather quickly, but the rabbit figured it out the quickest. I have discovered that wet bunnies are not very cute.
Anyway, one of my dogs, Slick, just loves the pool. He is a Pug and I didn't know Pugs could swim that well. He will get in the pool, swim, go to the ramp and get out. What I like best though, is that he has learned to use the ramp to go into the pool to join me.
The ramp has given me great peace of mind regarding my pets, but it has brought a lot of laughter to pool time at our house! Just wanted you to know. Thanks for a great little invention.
I sent a few pics of Slick. Reason ramp is secured the way it is, is due to poor workmanship on side of pool years ago. Slick doesn't seem to have any problems navigating with the exception of jumping back into the water before he gets out. He does not want us in the pool without him..." -- E.P.

August, 2007:

Dear Skamper-Ramp--

I recently purchased your product (on the recommendation of our pool service technician) so that our indoor cats could enjoy the outdoors now that we've screened in our pool.  Imagine my surprise when after only being installed 2 hours I saw a spider with 10 babies on her back climbing out!

Now, not only do I not worry about my cats but also am happy that the spiders, that keep down the number of so many nastier pests, can escape the fate of drowning too!....P. Brown; FL

"A friend of mine was caring for my dogs for an extended period of time. Since he has always allowed his dogs 'free run' around his unenclosed pool, I ordered a ramp and we installed it while I was there. While my dog was living there, fortunately, there were no mishaps (that we know of). When I picked up my dog, my friend told me to take the Skamper-Ramp back, he said he didn't need it, because his dogs were trained to, accustomed to, his pool. It saddened me greatly to learn, a short while later, that one of his elderly, top winning, show dogs drowned.  There's no guarantee the ramp would have saved the dog, but he probably would have survived because he would have had a place to rest until someone found him. A Skamper-Ramp is worth its weight in gold......and certainly a worthy investment." S.G. MAHA (again!)

"Even though our 4 cats are all indoor pets, we got your Skamper-Ramp to rescue the frogs, toads, mice, etc that were continually falling victim to our pool!" --S.A.P., Plain City OH

"We had a terrible problem with town cats drowning in our community pool--Skamper-Ramp has saved the life of innumerable neighborhood pets since we installed it."--City of Harlem, MT

"We are so happy no more wildlife has drowned in our pool since installing your great product! Thank you and please tell the inventor how clever he/she is!"  -- G. Erickson

"We have 2 slides in our pool and the squirrels like to climb up and slide down. The only problem is that they could never get back out of the water! Now that we have Skamper-Ramp installed, I don't spend my mornings on "skimmer basket duty! Thanks again, Skamper!" -- Jerry S.

"Dear Skamper-Ramp--
I've finally found a product (yours!) that works well with my dock and canal!  Everything else I've tried has grown barnacles!  I now have four Skamper-Ramp Big Dogs at various places due to the fluctuating water height and can't thank you enough for giving my dogs an easy, stress-free way of getting back on dry land!!"--
R. Cobb  Naples, FL

"Thanks to your wonderful product we can now enjoy our pool without concern that some poor creature drowned in the night. It really works!!! For years we would rush out every morning in the hope we might be in time for a rescue. It was so heartbreaking for us to be confronted with the sight of a dead animal, we thought about not even opening the pool each spring. We live in a heavily wooded area and I could not count all the frogs, mice, chipmunks that perished in the night.
For years I contacted pool supply companies trying to find something that would assist us in saving the animals. I cannot tell you how happy we were to find your product in a pet supply catalogue. We hope word of this life-saving device will get around so we can cut down on the number of pool-related animal deaths. I would also like to mention that we have two dogs that we easily instructed how to use the ramp. Thank you so very much!"
